Hi Staci,
I’m stunned…! I came on to your blog today to see how your winter garden was doing and to send you a note and see if you were going to be raising tomato starters this year. But it sounds as if you’ll be taking a bit of a break from gardening this year. I’m saddened. 🙁
Although our tomatoes were a bit late getting in last year… and they struggled this summer with the heat, they survived and right now we are still getting some yellow pear and some of the small grape orange color tomotoes. Not many of the orange ones… but enough for my wife to get a hand full every day or two and keep her smiling. 😉
Staci, I would love to pick your brain about starting up our own tomato plants this year. We have plenty of little tomatoes on the vines that we can get seeds from. But I don’t have the proper lamp. Can you tell me what kind and where I would go to get one? A few other questions for you. When I open up a tomato and get the seeds out, do I need to dry them first? Or, do I just put some of them in the a pot of peat or potting soil and put them under the lamp 24/7…?
We want to take that next step and try to grow a few of our own plants this year, Staci. Especially if you are not going to be growing them this year. I’m real sorry you are probably not growing a garden this year. But please smile knowing you helped me get going two years ago with ours and we are still going now. It’s because of you, Staci. 😉
Michael you are too kind. I am thankful that I was able to inspire you and your wife a little.
I am going to start some tomatoes and peppers just for fun because that’s one thing I do have space for, seedlings. I will find people to give them away to! If you end up not starting them yourself let me know and I will probably have some in February.
As for seed starting, it’s really simple. I buy seed starting mix at Lowe’s, usually the Miracle Gro kind. The seedlings grow much better with this than the other kinds they sell at Lowe’s.
I have a couple of posts that shows my lights and planting seeds in seed trays. If you type in We’re a Sowin’ and Ugly Lights you can get the visuals as well as the instructions….well, they’re sort of instructions. If you need more detail let me know. I’d be happy to help.
Whoops, I meant to say if you type in We’re A Sowin’ and Ugly Lights in the search bar at the upper left hand corner of the website you will find them.
Hi….
I Love those pictures!….
I wish I could ‘kiss’ the cheeks of this ‘guy’ in

…..Aunt ‘B’……
Hi there!! You give me hope. I’m in Apache Junction and it’s good to see that other Arizonans can grow such yummy food.
The BLT’s look delicious!
Hi! I just discovered you and have added you to my list of blogs I read every week.
